ACON is a New South Wales based health promotion organisation specialising in HIV prevention, HIV support and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) health.
Our Domestic & Family Violence Strategy was launched by the Hon Pru Goward, NSW Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, in September 2015. The minister also announced a grant of $115,000 for ACON to deliver a one-year primary prevention campaign to increase awareness of healthy relationships among lesbians and to identify the early signs of DFV in the broader LGBTI community. This project began in November 2016.
ACON provides support and counselling for LGBTI people experiencing domestic and family violence (DFV). In 2016 ACON will be running primary prevention campaigns and engaging with DFV service providers to raise awareness and improve support for LGBTI people experiencing DFV.
ACON is a founding and active member of the Sydney based LGBTIQ Domestic Violence Interagency.
ACON provides confidential fee-based short term counselling (up to 12 sessions) for LGBTIQ people seeking support in relation to family and domestic violence. Fees for this service are negotiated according to individual circumstances, and priority is given to people on low incomes or with limited options.
