IF YOU OR SOMEONE ELSE
IS IN DANGER CALL 000

Introduction

This toolkit discusses sexual violence, including references to rape and other forms of sexual assault and harassment. Please ensure you feel ready to read this kind of material as it may be confronting.

If you need support please use this tool to find a service near you.

This toolkit has been written specifically by and for people from sexuality and gender diverse communities (LGBTQ+ people). We’ll be talking about how we can all contribute to respectful, consent focused cultures, and challenge behaviours that can lead to sexual violence. This toolkit is focused on intimate relationships and social environments, like parties, and hook-ups.

This toolkit also provides support to people who:

  • know someone who has, or may have experienced sexual violence
  • are worried that someone they know is using coercive or sexually violent behaviours.

Throughout this toolkit, we use the acronym LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer) to refer to sexuality and gender diverse communities and people. We acknowledge that this acronym may not adequately capture all the various and unique identities of all people in our communities.

We will be using language interchangeably to refer to people who have experienced sexual violence (such as victim and survivor)

This resource was developed by ACON and supported by the NSW Department of Communities and Justice.

ACON acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands on which we work across NSW. We pay respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We acknowledge the leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and communities in developing strengths-based community-driven approaches to addressing structural disadvantage and violence. We learn from and strive to amplify this work.
