Pride in Prevention

Rainbow Health Australia is proud to announce the launch of Pride in Prevention: A guide to primary prevention of family violence experienced by LGBTIQ communities.

The Pride in Prevention Evidence Guide [PDF, 6.6MB] is now available to download.

This guide has been produced by the LGBTIQ Family Violence Prevention Project 2019-2021, a ground-breaking initiative led by Rainbow Health Australia and funded by the Office for Women in the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet.

This project forges new ground in the primary prevention of family violence experienced by LGBTIQ communities, seeking to address critical evidence gaps, strengthen understanding of the drivers of violence, and build expertise for both LGBTIQ organisations and family violence primary prevention organisations to effectively deliver evidence-based programs.

Pride in Prevention summarises the current available evidence on the drivers of family violence experienced by LGBTIQ communities and provides recommendations for priority interventions to address it. The guide will underpin the work of several pilot primary prevention activities to be co-developed and delivered as part of the next phase of this project.

The guide was launched by Gabrielle Williams, Minister for Prevention of Family Violence, and Ro Allen, the Commissioner for Gender and Sexuality, joined by Russell Vickery, LGBTIQ representative on the Victorian Victim Survivors’ Advisory Council. The launch also featured a panel discussion with project partners Zoe Bell Gender Collective and Thorne Harbour Health, and leaders in the primary prevention of violence against women, Domestic Violence Resource Centre Victoria and Our Watch. Panellists shared their thoughts on the relevance of the resource to their work and its importance in developing a shared vision of ending all forms of family violence. The launch is now available for viewing.
