Celebrating #StrongSafeFabulous relationships this Mardi Gras season

Mardi Gras is an important time for sexuality and gender diverse people to celebrate our identities. This year, Prosper (Project Australia) and Rainbow Families NSW would like to invite you to be part of the #StrongSafeFabulous Campaign to promote healthy relationships and prevent violence in rainbow families.     Unfortunately domestic and family violence occurs at similar if not higher rates amongst sexuality and gender diverse communities than in the general community  (Rainbow Health Victoria, 2020). Domestic violence can look different in our communities, and people might find it harder to reach out for support due in part to fears of experiencing discrimination and supports that are not inclusive of their sexuality and/or gender identity. Up to a third of LGBTIQ people experiencing intimate partner violence have reported having children living with them at the time of the abuse (Hudson, 2019).     #StrongSafeFabulous invites us all to change the picture and prevent violence in our communities. Research by Rainbow Health Victoria shows that we can all be part of community wide change through simple actions which:

• • Support positive, equal and respectful LGBTIQA+ relationships and communities
  • Promote pride in LGBTIQ bodies, identities, families and relationships
  • Raise awareness and community capacity to respond to violence

  How I Can Help

1. 1. Find a photo that represents a #StrongSafeFabulous relationship to you. This could be you with your partner, friend, family, chosen family, dog, pregnant belly- it's up to you
   2. Login to your favourite social media outlet like Instagram, Facebook or Twitter
   3. Share your picture and add the #StrongSafeFabulous hashtag
   4. Follow @ProsperProjectAustralia and @rainbowfamiliesAU on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and share their content; be sure to use the #StrongSafeFabulous hashtag!
