Wear It Purple Day with Benjamin Law- NSW

In celebration of Wear It Purple Day 2024, the Library and Community Services section are supporting the LGBTQIA+ community by hosting an afternoon of fun on Friday 30 August.
All Ages Afternoon Tea – Coffee and Chat
2pm-3pm: A coffee and chat afternoon tea offering games, badge making and connection while promoting Pride and Wear It Purple Day.
Youth Drop In Creative Fun
3pm-4.30pm: Offering snacks, drinks, games, badge making and more.
Benjamin Law Author Talk
5pm-6pm: Join Benjamin for a talk about his books, about his career to date and about his own experiences growing up as a gay, Asian-Australian. Hornsby Library and Community Services will host acclaimed writer and broadcaster Benjamin Law as he discusses his edited work ‘Growing Up Queer in Australia’ as part of our ‘Wear It Purple Day’ celebrations. Benjamin will be speaking about his books, about his career to date and about his own experiences growing up as a gay, Asian-Australian in Coastal Queensland in the 1990s. Benjamin Law author Credit-Daniel Francisco RoblesBenjamin Law is a Sydney-based journalist, columnist, and screenwriter. He is the author of Gaysia: Adventures in the Queer East and the Quarterly Essay Moral Panic 101, and editor of the anthology Growing Up Queer in Australia. He also wrote The Family Law – a joyous and much-loved family memoir which inspired a major SBS television series. As a proud advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community and Asian-Australian community, Benjamin’s work celebrates the diversity of Australia and highlights the challenges often faced by minority communities.
