Strengthening LGBTQ+ community responses to disclosures of sexual violence

Are you a community leader?  

Do you want to feel empowered to build healthy consent focused environments?  

Do you want to learn how to confidently respond to disclosures of sexual violence?   

 

About this workshop: 

ACON are running a workshop for any LGBTQ community leaders to upskill their knowledge and capacity to build healthy consent focused environments and learn how to confidently respond to disclosures of violence. 

For example, you may: 

  • Run an LGBTQ+ community sporting group  
  • Host LGBTQ+ parties or events for community  
  • Be a moderator of an LGBTQ+ online space  
  • Be an influencer with connections to LGBTQ+ community  
  • Lead a religious congregation with LGBTQ+ community members   
  • Run a social group for LGBTQ+ communities  

This workshop is designed to provide a safe space for you to learn and understand more about sexual violence in our communities including how to prevent it and how to respond to it.  

Who can attend this workshop? 

This workshop is anyone who identifies as LGBTQ+ who is involved in a community group who is interested in upskilling themselves in how to respond to a disclosure of violence. The groups are open to people of all genders. Trans people of all genders are welcome and encouraged to join. 

You must be over 18 years old to participate and live in NSW.

DATE: Saturday, 8 June  NEW DATE 22nd June

TIME: 10am – 4:30pm  

VENUE: 107 Redfern Street, Redfern

Who is facilitating the workshop?  

The workshop will be co-facilitated by two experienced sexual, domestic and family violence workers Bonnie and KJ.

If you, or someone you know would like support; ACON can offer one on one counselling, case work and practical assistance to community members who are feeling unsafe in their relationships.

If you or someone you know needs immediate support, you can contact Rainbow Sexual, Domestic and Family Violence Helpline which is for anyone from the LGBTIQ+ community whose life has been impacted by sexual domestic and/or family violence. You can contact them via 1800 497 212 (available 24/7).
