Survivor Stories: Applications now open!

Thank you for your interest – the closing date for these EOI’s has passed and we will no longer be accepting any new applications.

About the project:

Survivor Stories is an extraordinary opportunity for LGBTQ+ creatives (ages 18+) from across NSW who have experienced sexual violence.

ACON will publish a printed anthology of work from creatives (you could create stories, poems, lyrics, drawing, art, photography, mixed media and so on) who we will support to come together and share their experiences, particularly of trauma recovery and healing.

What you’ll need to do:

Selected creatives will participate in a mentorship program with two full day workshops to connect with each other, develop a sense of safety and foster group cohesion. We will have guest facilitators host 3 other workshops based on creative forms of expression.

Involvement in Survivor Stories will look like:

  • Attending workshops in March 2024 both online and in Gadigal inner Sydney (ACON can pay for your accommodation and transport if you are regional, rural or remote).
  • Producing a piece of art, photography, mixed media or writing of up to 800-1000 words.
  • Opportunities to read, perform or speak to your work at a launch event and future events in the 2024 – 2025 financial year.
  • Contributors will be paid a fee of $600 for their involvement in the project.

When and where will the workshops be?

ACON can pay for your transport, hotel transfers, accommodation and meal allowances for those who live in NSW away from Sydney to attend the in person 2 day workshops.

Workshop 1: Online via Zoom on 12 March 2024 5:30pm – 7:30pm

Workshop 2: Online via Zoom 19 March 2024 5:30pm – 7:30pm

Two-day workshop extravaganza: 23 and 24 March in person at the ACON café (ground level of ACON office), 414 Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills, NSW.

For more details, please read the EOI below.

Safety and Confidentiality

Your safety is our biggest priority. We understand that taking part in this kind of project may create feelings of vulnerability or raise concerns about confidentiality and safety in small communities. We speak with everyone interested in the workshops about these concerns to make sure this will be an appropriate and safe space for them.

Before you register your interest, consider reading these questions and using them as a reflective activity to decide if you are at the stage of your journey where this project may be helpful to you.
